Irene Stillings Joins Sustainable Surplus Board of Directors

Irene Stillings, recently retired executive director of the California Center for Sustainable Energy (CCSE), has joined the board of directors of Sustainable Surplus Exchange (SSE).  Ms. Stillings brings over 30 years’ experience in sustainability, energy initiatives and environmental education.

During her ten years of leadership, she grew CCSE from 7 to 90 employees and broadened their focus to include renewable and alternative energy, and climate change.  Under her direction, CCSE became the go-to organization for balanced, objective information and a trusted advisor to elected officials, business leaders and key stakeholders in the field.

Ms. Stillings is currently the president of the Green Chamber of Commerce-San Diego.  Their efforts to educate local businesses on sustainable best practices parallel the efforts of SSE.  “I really believe in what SSE is doing; it has such a positive impact on our community,” she said.

“We are thrilled to have Irene join our team,” said Sue Prelozni, SSE executive director. Prelozni indicated plans to collaborate with the Green Chamber to build educational programs this year.

In addition to her experience in the energy industries, Ms. Stillings brings a broad base of board experience to SSE.  She has worked with numerous nonprofits, including ACORE, City of San Diego Sustainable Energy Advisory Board, San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce Policy Committee, and the San Diego Zoological Society.

Prelozni added, “We are in a strong growth mode and Irene comes to SSE at a crucial time to take this organization to the next level.”
