Sustainable Surplus Exchange
(SSE) continues its strong growth mode with the addition of three incredible
individuals to its Board of Directors. New
to the team are Diana Shapiro, Dave Lange and Evan Matzen. “The one common thread between all three
directors is their work in sustainability,” said executive director, Sue
Prelozni.
Diana Shapiro is Chief Operating Officer at Environmental
Waste Solutions, LLC (EWS). She specializes in helping fortune 500 companies
reduce their costs associated with waste disposal, recycling and energy efficient
lighting services. “I joined the Board with community involvement being very
high on my list of priorities,” said Shapiro.
“I embrace the vision of SSE and hope to revolutionize their business
model as the standard for San Diego.” A waste management consultant for over 12
years, Shapiro assures companies achieve their sustainability initiatives and
divert waste away from the landfills.
Lending his expertise as an accredited LEED professional is
Dave Lange.
He
is an environmental consultant with Haley and Aldrich, integrating
environmental and social performance into business strategies and initiatives. “SSE's
mission resonated with me instantly as a sustainability professional,” said
Lange. “SSE’s innovative alternative to
traditional waste disposal changes the conversation from ‘end of use’ to ‘end
of life’.” According to Prelozni, SSE plans with Industrial
Environmental Association (IEA) where Lange has served as co-chair of the
sustainability committee for five years.
“Sustainable Surplus Exchange fills a much needed void in
the world of recycling and repurposing,” said new director Evan Matzen. “I
look forward to being a part of its strong growth and replicating this model
into other communities.” Matzen is the
Sustainability Manager for multi-billion dollar distributor, HD Supply. He is
responsible for HD’s ideallygreenSM initiative, which provides customers
with green products and practices, as well as customized sustainability support
and expertise.
“Our team is evolving into a serious, passionate group of
individuals committed to building sustainable communities,” said Prelozni. “We will position San Diego as the leader in
this movement.”
